The MFP1 has frequencies programmable by the user between 20 and 50 kHz in 500 Hz increments. Before deploying the pinger, the operator chooses among sixty distinct frequencies. In the same geographical region, many pingers can be installed, each transmitting at a distinct frequency. This allows a diver equipped with a pinger receiver to precisely locate the location of each pinger without interference from the other pingers.
The pingers manufactured by JW Fisher are highly configurable, letting the user to pick the number of pulses per second, the duration of each pulse, and the output power. Adjustments to the duration of each pulse and output strength enable the operator to customize the detection range of the pingers. Before deploying the MFP1, the transmission frequency can be set by the operator. These characteristics render the MFP1 highly adaptable and the best option for practically any application.

The pingers are powered by two regular alkaline 9-volt batteries that, depending on output power and pulse selection, can last anywhere from a few days to many months. Lithium batteries can be employed for extended durations. A longer housing that accommodates six batteries and provides three times the typical running duration is also available. The pinger may be engaged automatically when placed in water or manually using a switch.
