The Pulse 8X comes with a full accessory bundle that contains all of the required components for land and underwater detection. A corrosion-resistant PVC underwater handle and an aluminum land handle, an underwater earphone, AC and DC battery chargers, and a hip mount kit are included with the detector. In addition to a carry bag and land headphones, the 8X bundle contains both.

There are both visible and audible target indications on the 8X. When a metal item is identified, an audible alert sounds, and a meter indicates the signal's intensity. The meter is useful for estimating the target's size and depth of burying, details that are not easily represented by the blinking LED indications or audio-only readouts of certain other detectors. The audio alert is sufficiently loud that a diver can hear it without placing the earphone directly on the ear. The detectors are powered by rechargeable batteries for 12 hours before they must be recharged overnight. Batteries can be simply replaced in the field to enable continuous operation. The electronics compartment may be opened for examination or battery replacement without voiding the warranty, unlike some other detectors. The JW Fishers Pulse 8X metal detector includes all the necessary attachments for operation on the surface or at depths beyond 200 feet.

The buoyancy of the detector is somewhat negative in water. This enables the diver to place the detector on the ocean floor in order to excavate a target without it floating away, which is an issue with "positive buoyancy" detectors. The underwater housing is a one-piece solid casting with a 14" wall thickness and brass inserts that are molded in. A faceplate of acrylic with a thickness of one-half inch is secured with six stainless steel screws, providing a maximum depth rating of more than 200 feet. The regular 7.5-inch coil provides excellent sensitivity to small and big targets and makes identifying targets effortlessly. There are several sizes of coils available for more specific uses. To swap coils, the underwater connector option is required.

Pulse 8X is the most sensitive pulse detector on the market and continues to be the detector of choice for commercial and professional divers across the world.
