The Cable Tracker 1 (CT-1) system from JW Fishers was developed particularly to find and track underground cables, such as power and communications lines. The system identifies buried or submerged cables. The CT-1 will trace cables and find water-exposed faults or break spots.
The Cable Tracker 1 (CT-1) device from JW Fishers was developed particularly to find and track buried power and communications lines. The technology will discover submerged or buried wires. In addition to locating and tracking cables, the CT-1 can discover flaws or breakage in a cable. There is also an ROV-mounted version of the CT-1 available (CT-1R). The Cable Tracker 1 system is comprised of both the Signal Injector control box and the Cable Tracker Probe. On land, the Signal Injector is connected to an exposed portion of the cable. A signal of 25 Hz or 1,024 Hz is induced into the wire. The operator walks or swims with the Cable Tracker Probe along the length of the cable receiving the signal.
Typically, the 25 Hz signal is initially employed to identify the wire because it can be detected from wider distances. Once the approximate position of the cable has been discovered, the 1,024 frequency is utilized to locate the wire's specific location. The Signal Injector is typically unnecessary while looking for power cables because the Probe can detect the 60 Hz (USA) or 50 Hz (Europe) frequency of an AC voltage line. A switch on the Probe enables the user to pick the desired frequency. The Cable Tracker 1 device is so excellent at tracking and identifying cables that the cable can often be spotted and followed in shallow water from the surface using a small boat.
The operator submerges the probe's nose in the water and sweeps it back and forth until a signal is detected. Once the cable has been identified, it may be simply followed from the surface. A diver can be utilized to locate the cable's precise location if necessary.
The Probe is powered by six rechargeable AA batteries, allowing it to function continuously for 12 hours. The system includes both 120-volt ac and 12-volt dc battery chargers. The Signal Injector operates on 120 volts ac. For use with a 220 vac power source, a 220/120 voltage converter and a 220-volt charger are offered.
