DV-2 Surface Dropped Underwater Video Camera System by JW Fishers

The DV-2 dropped video system offers an economical way for underwater inspection and search activities. The device is deployed over the vessel's side and lowered to the ocean floor. Targets may be confirmed and documented without the need for time-consuming check dives. The camera has both downward and side-looking capabilities.

The JW Fishers DV-2 dropped video system is great for scouting dive locations prior to entering the water and doing a number of other underwater searches. Difficult or hazardous dives can be avoided, and underwater items or search regions can be examined and documented without the need for time-consuming check-out dives. Eliminating the need for decompression dives, the DV-2 can aid law enforcement organizations with evidence retrieval and dive rescue groups with deep water search operations. The DV-2 system features a high-resolution black-and-white camera housed in a PVC casing that is resistant to corrosion, two 100-watt quartz halogen lamps, and a 150-foot wire. The typical black-and-white camera has a lux rating of 0.5 and a 6mm lens with a 50-degree viewing angle. When the DV-2 is positioned 10 feet from the ground, an area roughly 10 feet in diameter is visible. The high-powered lights are installed on outrigger arms, so separating them from the underwater housing in order to scatter the light pattern over a broader area and eliminate "hot spots" The electrical wires are protected by a hollow-core polypropylene rope that also serves as a sturdy tow component. The DV-2's camera generates crisp, crystal-clear video pictures, which are sent to the surface for viewing. The high-intensity underwater lighting is water-cooled, allowing for multiple operations without the need to replace the bulbs.

The DV-2 was designed for use as a vertical drop camera, but a second tether line may be added to the front of the housing to elevate the camera for horizontal viewing. A diver can also carry the housing to conduct checks or video underwater things. In contrast to battery-operated systems, the DV-2 is powered by 120 volts of alternating current, allowing for an indefinite operational period with the use of a small generator. Numerous variations are available for the system, including color cameras, cable lengths of up to 1,000 feet, and depth ratings of up to 1,000 feet. The entire system is backed by a two-year warranty from Fishers.

Some underwater camera systems now available on the market claim their "infrared cameras" can see in complete darkness. These are not the infrared cameras commonly associated with heat sensitivity. These "infrared cameras" require photo-diode-based infrared light sources. The issue is that this light source has a very limited range in the water. In real tests, the viewing range and image quality of these "infrared cameras" were much inferior to that of our high-resolution low-light cameras. Infrared cameras have the benefit of being incredibly inexpensive. These cameras are far less expensive than even the high-quality lenses utilized in JW Fisher's underwater video systems.

The DV-2's top connects to a video display or normal television. The video may be recorded on any VCR to provide a lasting record of a favorite diving spot or inspection assignment. The DV-2 system consists of a 0.5 lux black-and-white camera housed in a corrosion-resistant PVC shell with an integrated leak detection system, two 100-watt high-intensity underwater lights, and a 150-foot deployment line. The underwater lights feature an innovative water-cooling technology that enables the DV-2 to function for countless hours without requiring the replacement of the bulbs.
